Psychotherapeutic Factors of Jesus’ Healing in the New testament

Abstract

|
This paper investigates 41 cases of Jesus’ healing in the New Testament. The results suggest that lots of healed diseases or symptoms might be mental disorders or symptoms, such as conversion(mainly), psychoses, psychophysiologic disorders, and somatization. It is alleged that main psychotherapeutic factors are suggestion and empathy. In addition, other supportive psychotherapeutic factors, such as support, reassurance, and advice, and in some cases, expressive psychotherapeutic factors such as interpretation, conflict resolution, and insight, might be involved for Jesus’ healing.
